The Student Wellness Service (SWS) at the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) at University of Cape Town (UCT) provides a professional health and counselling service to students at a primary health care level.

The service is dedicated to assisting students in making healthy lifestyle choices in relation to nutrition, alcohol, safer sex, relationships and stress management amongst others, in support of academic success.
SWS is involved with the prevention, early detection and treatment of all health and psychological conditions as well as the promotion of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. It provides psychosocial support and interventions to students presenting with personal, social, family and relationship challenges.
SWS seeks to play a significant role in developing and empowering the whole student – promoting their ability to take control of their own living and learning through wellness, self-confidence, self-awareness, personal meaning and responsible citizenship.
The service is delivered by professionals in the respective fields.
- Primary healthcare: professional nurses, certified nurse practitioners (CNPs) and general practitioners, see medical team
- Mental health and counselling: psychologists and social workers, see counselling team
- Crisis intervention: social workers, professional nurses and a principal nurse practitioner, see crisis intervention team

Students engage with the SWS at dedicated SWS Service Points after having done an appointment booking.
